Why did the Impressionist painters focus on scenes of leisure and landscape?

Using natural light to capture the effects of sunlight - often transient,as the sun moves across the sky - on a scene was an important part of Impressionist painting,and so many paintings were done outside, in the open air.Thus the subject matter was often what the artist could see outside, so landscapes and leisure scenes.
